PlayStation has had a rather interesting week. Not content with revealing the PS5 Pro a few days ago, today it was confirmed that firmware update 24.06-10.00.00 is now available. Here we find not only an improvement to overall performance, but a number of rather interesting elements have been added to the console.
One of the most interesting elements is the Welcome Hub. In this way, It is now possible to customize the home screen with widgets and backgrounds. So now you’ll be able to see your console space, accessory battery levels, online friends, trophies, and more, instantly and without having to go into another menu. This will be available gradually, with the United States receiving this content first, then Japan, followed by Europe, and then the rest of the world.
Widgets can be modified in size, position and more, so that each user can find the best way to have accurate information about their console at hand. For its part, You can now choose images from the gallery or specific animations as backgrounds for the consolesomething fans have been asking for since the launch of the PlayStation 5.
The second big new feature of the update is the customization of 3D audio for headphones. It’s now possible to save different profiles for each player, which you can use to, among other things, give a different focus to conversations between characters, or better appreciate a title’s soundtrack. To create a custom 3D audio profile, you’ll need to go to Settings, select Sound, then 3D Audio (Headphones) on PS5, and follow the steps on screen.
The latest update also features a number of not-so-big, but important improvements, how to share voice groups with links for messaging apps and social networks, although this will also be rolled out gradually to all users. Similarly, you can adjust Remote Play settings per user and choose who can connect to the PS5.
Finally, adaptive charging for the DualSense, DualSense Edge, PlayStation VR2 Sense, and Access is now available on PS5 Slim models, something that’s not available on launch consoles, when the console enters rest mode. This will also be coming to PS5 Pro when it’s available. This means that the USB port will stop receiving a charge if nothing is connected to it, so you can save energy.
While some elements of this update will gradually reach all users, This is one of the most important updates for the PlayStation 5 in a long timeand introduces a number of elements that fans have asked for since the console’s launch. In related news, the PS5 Pro would sell for similarly to the PS4 Pro. Likewise, the PS5’s external disk drive is selling out.
Author’s Note:
This is a major update. I’m most interested in the widgets and custom backgrounds. While it looks like this won’t be similar to what we saw on the PS4, it’s good to see that the company has listened to fans, though we’ll have to see how this actually works.
