The Japanese retailer Nojima Denki has found a controversial solution to cope with the touts they resell PlayStation 5 at exorbitant prices. At the moment, unfortunately, the quantity of consoles is still limited, and this means that the phenomenon of touting continues to spread all over the world.
Nojima Denki however, it would seem to have found a solution, write the name of the buyers on the console packaging permanently and open the controller boxes DualSense. This means that if someone buys a console and then resells it, he will not be able to make it appear as new, thus decreasing the selling price. Not only that, having your name written on the package is an additional deterrent as considerably increases the traceability of a possible scalper.
Although this solution seems to have somewhat countered the problem, the permanent changes to the packaging they risk being a deterrent for all collectors as well who prefer to keep the console box in perfect condition as well. At the moment the only method used against touts in Europe is the limited sale of consoles per person, but this is easily circumvented thanks to systems like duplicate bots and accounts.
We therefore do not know if this method will also be applied by European dealers, or if possible complaints from collectors will prevent this somewhat drastic solution.
