Consoles generally do not have the same design from when they are prototyped to when they are launched on the market in their final version. They have the shape of a devkit which allows testers and developers to check the console before launch and the same goes for PS5.
The console devkit has made its debut in some videos and images since PS5 was announced and also from the published patents we remember the particular V shape on the top. Now someone has managed to get their hands on this devkit and have shown it in a video.
YouTuber Macho Nacho Productions grabbed a development kit for PlayStation 5 and gives us a detailed look at the console. First, the YouTuber talks about the features of this devkit. On the front, there is a start / stand-by button and a reset button but no disk drives. The prototype also has an integrated digital display and 4 USB 3.0 ports and 1 USB 2.0 port with a USB C port. The distinct V shape of the console is present for ventilation and screws hold the front.
As we can see from the video, the YouTuber manages to turn on the prototype that starts up like a normal PS5. The integrated display shows information such as IP address, network, DefaultGW, etc. After reaching the main menu screen of the PlayStation 5 dev kit, there are some differences.
There is a message at the top showing that the devkit has passed its expiration date. To use it, you need a Sony authorized IP address and activation. So, really there’s not much you can do with this devkit other than that it can become a collector’s item.
