Among the various functions available on PS5, there is one that is appreciated by a number of players, although it still doesn’t work quite right. Let’s talk – as you may have guessed – about hour counter of played of the various titles started with the console. This isn’t an incredible idea (on Steam it’s something to be taken for granted, so to speak) but in the console context it’s not always a certainty. It’s a shame, however, that it is often imprecise. Well, now it seems that the situation has worsened and in a strange way.
It seems that the PlayStation Network recently received an update, but this did not fix the game counting function on the PS5 at all. Indeed, there appears to be a series of oddities, with players reporting that in some games the times are correct, while in others the number has also dropped dramatically to the point where you can tell them that it’s obvious that it’s a mistake. At least one example shows how hundreds of hours on a game have now become four.
The reports are circulating on Reddit, ResetEra, PSNProfiles and not only. Above you can see how a user reports that the meter has “lost” about 250 hours.
What is the PS5 hour counter for?
Obviously the function of PS5 hour counter it has no real purpose other than to provide information to the players. Some are not at all interested in it, others are annoyed for some reason by those who appreciate this data, still others consider it fundamental and would like the function to go back to normal (if it can ever be said to have been “correct”).
Regardless of what you think, it is undeniable that it is somewhat strange to offer such a visible tool that works in such a clearly imprecise way. “It’s better than nothing”, you might say, but many fans are a little frustrated that Sony never wanted (could?) fix the issue.
How do you see it?
