Prysmian, thanks to the high voltage direct current connection, the energy generated offshore will be replaced by a source green
Prysmian, the Italian energy cable giant, led by the CEO Valerio Battista, signed a ‘Limited Notice to Proceed’ for the supply of power cables in the context of an important project in submarine cable high voltage direct current (HVDC) in Middle East.
Lntp was awarded to Prysmian by Samsung C&T as part of its EPC consortium with Jan De Nul Group. The new link will allow the transmission of large quantities of energy between the conversion station of At the Mirfa, in the hinterland of Abu Dhabi, And the one on the offshore island of Al Ghallan.

The project includes both a submarine route of 124 kilometers of HVDC submarine cables to be installed in one depth which reaches i 35 meters and a section on the mainland of 3.5 kilometers of HVDC land cables. The project testing, the note reads, it is expected in 2025.
Thanks to this new high voltage direct current connection, theenergy currently generated offshore will be replaced by an energy source clean and the energy produced onshore will reduce both the environmental impact and carbon dioxide emissions, thus supporting ADNOC’s goal of decarbonise its offshore production activities, explains the Prysmian note. All HVDC submarine cables will be produced in Arco Felice, in the province of Naples, while HVDC terrestrial cables will be manufactured at the Pikkala plant (Finland).
Submarine fiber optic cables will be produced in the Nordenham plant, in Germany, while Prysmian will leverage its portfolio of asset management services and electronic products to provide a range of cable monitoring solutions.
As part of the ‘Full Contract Award’ and ‘NTP’ scheduled for the third quarter of 2022, Prysmian is also expected to sign a parallel installation agreement with Jan De Nul Group for subsea cable installation activities where offshore installation operations will be carried out via the state-of-the-art cable-laying vessel of Leonardo da Vinci group, equipped with a dynamic positioning system (DP), while activities in shallow water will be carried out by Ulisse, the group’s state-of-the-art cable-laying barge.
