Thousands of people protest in Paris and other French cities against the health pass that becomes a compulsory vaccination certificate, including the third dose of antidotes. The deputies of the Lower House approved, this January 15, the controversial bill, which must now be discussed in the Senate.
Several protests against the sanitary pass take over France. Authorities reported that they expect between 9,000 and 14,000 protesters in Paris alone and between 85,000 and 120,000 nationwide.
It is expected that the largest anti-vaccine mobilization in the capital will be that of the political movement Les Patriotes of presidential candidate Florian Philippot, but various groups will also join, including an initiative of the so-called ‘Yellow Vests’, a group that in the past protested against the economic policies of the Government of Emmanuel Macron.
These demonstrations represent a challenge for the public force and the Executive, while they try to stop the spread of Covid-19 infections, which in recent days have registered records due to the Omicron variant, much more transmissible than others, such as Delta.
As a result of the declarations of the French president, determined to “annoy” the unvaccinated, the Ministry of the Interior counted 105,200 protesters throughout France on January 8, four times more than the 25,500 of the previous mobilization, on December 18 .
Thousands of health passes would be replaced by a mandatory vaccination certificate
Tens of thousands of health passes should be deactivated from this Saturday, January 15, a deadline set by the Government, if citizens do not show that they have completed their vaccination scheme, as confirmed by the Ministry of Health on Friday night.
According to estimates by the authorities, some 560,000 people are likely to lose their health passes initially, but the true figure is difficult to determine.
These are people over 65 years of age and citizens with comorbidities, who previously had access to the third dose of antidotes.
It is estimated that to date around 15.9 million adults, 98% of the indicated population, should have already completed their immunization schedule seven months after their previous injection.
But that does not mean that the remaining 560,000 will lose their passes immediately, explained the Minister of Health, Olivier Verán, because among them, “there is a significant number that has presented a contagion” without having notified it yet in the TousAntiCovid application, which expands the validity of your health passport.
Having the complete vaccination schedule will soon be the necessary condition to maintain the health certificate. It will no longer be enough to present negative results of a Covid-19 detection test or to have recently overcome the disease.
However, it will no longer be mandatory to wear masks outdoors in Paris, after a court ruled that the requirement is a violation of personal freedom.
The deputies of the National Assembly, the Lower House of the French Legislature, approved without surprise and in second reading on January 15 the controversial bill that transforms the health pass into a vaccination certificate, after a night of debates that now They must remain in the Senate.
