The German government will offer its population a new vaccine against Covid-19 with which it hopes to convince a significant minority of Germans to be inoculated. As reported by The Guardian, about 1.4 million doses of the vaccine developed by Novavax will arrive in the country this week, after the immunizer was approved by the European Union in December.

Because it is a protein-based vaccine, and could be comparable to flu vaccines, Olaf Scholz’s government hopes to convince citizens who have resisted receiving the mRNA vaccines that are used more frequently.
In addition to the 1.4 million doses of Nuvaxovid vaccines that arrive this week, the German government says it will receive another one million doses next week. In total, Germany has ordered 34 million doses of vaccines from Novavax this year.
So far, only Indonesia and the Philippines have vaccinated their populations with the immunizer designed by Novavax. In the United States, for example, it is still waiting for authorization.
Surveys in Germany point to considerable interest in the Novavax vaccine among the 19.8 million people who have refused to be vaccinated so far.
