Seven years after the last podium won with Ferrari in Hungary, in 2014, Fernando Alonso came back to uncork the champagne at the conclusion of Qatar Grand Prix, succeeding at the end of a superlative race at the wheel of the Alpine celebrated with third place. The two-time world champion, at the age of 40, agreed on his class, which emerged the day before in qualifying on a track, like that of Losail, never faced by almost all the drivers on the grid.
A performance of applause that has also convinced other Formula 1 legends such as Alain Prost, present today as non-executive director of the French team. The Teacher, interviewed by Auto Motor und Sport, commented on the performance of the Asturian: “For me, he is the best driver on the track – admitted the four-time world champion – the approach he has to the race is incredible, as is his feeling with the tires, the observations he makes on the car and how he interacts with the engineers ”.
In addition to that, the 66-year-old admitted that he had completely changed his mind since the day Alonso himself signed with Alpine for his return to F1: “Fernando always told me he had become a different person – he added – and I must say he was right. He is totally at the service of the team, and it’s a great aspect for the team ”.
