Pro-Ukrainian activists in Leipzig staged a fight during Oliver Stone’s film about the Maidan
In Germany, pro-Ukrainian activists staged a fight during the screening of director Oliver Stone’s film about the Maidan “Ukraine on fire”. About it writes SPIEGEL.
The incident took place at the globaLE film festival in Leipzig. Members of the German-Ukrainian artist group Óstov Collective criticized the director’s allegedly pro-Russian stance and got into a fight with the organizers in an attempt to disrupt the event.
After police intervention, the show continued. At the same time, one of the activists complained that he had been hit in the face, but law enforcement agencies launched an investigation against the members of the Óstov Collective themselves, suspecting them of attempted bodily harm.
“Ukraine on Fire” is dedicated to the history of Ukraine from the 17th century to the present day and the protest actions on the Maidan in Kyiv, which took place in late 2013 – early 2014. Then peaceful demonstrations gradually turned into riots, and eventually led to a violent change of power in the republic. The interview for Stone’s film, in particular, was given by former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, and Russian leader Vladimir Putin also spoke out. The tape was posted online.
