The judicial authority has ordered the imprisonment of all of them for trafficking in human beings.
The National Police has arrested four individuals in Cartagena accused of being the alleged patterns of boats in the last arrival of these boats last weekend. The judicial authority has ordered the imprisonment of all of them for trafficking in human beings.
This has been made known by the National Police, which has managed to “reliably” demonstrate the participation of these individuals in the events and their integration into criminal organizations based in northern Algeria.
And it is that the coasts of the Region registered during the past weekend a new wave of immigrants from various areas of the Algerian coast.
The different investigations carried out by the police units have allowed the arrest of these four Algerian citizens, among whom were both travel organizers and people responsible for the patronage and management of the boats that transport immigrants to Spain.
These boat “pilots” “already have previous knowledge in navigation or are instructed in various coastal areas of the provinces of Oran and Mostaganem in the handling of small recreational boats, both pneumatic and fiberglass,” according to the National Police.
In the same way, they are instructed in the operation of the engine, the feeding system through hoses connected to fuel bottles and how to navigate the sea with GPS, or compass in your case. They are captured by criminal organizations, joining them and receiving “succulent” amounts for carrying out the trips, as the same sources affirm.
The reconstruction of the events and the investigations carried out by the National Police have made it possible to verify that the immigrants, of various nationalities and captured in different parts of Algeria, sometimes paid amounts close to 4,500 euros to be transferred to the Spanish coast in boats. barely five meters long, with low-power engines.
Similarly, a significant proportion of the immigrants who had been trafficked did not even know how to swim. Added to all this is the fact that families with very young minors have already traveled on board these boats repeatedly. “Serve the example that, in recent weeks, several family groups have arrived with very young minors, including babies,” adds the National Police.
The journey, of almost 150 nautical miles, is highly dangerous, because in addition to traveling crowded in small boats and some of the immigrants not knowing how to swim, they also do not have the minimum security and protection measures, such as life jackets, flares or radio beacons.
In the same way, to feed the engine they used gasoline drums connected directly to it, with the consequent risk of possible explosions as it was not a sealed system, apart from other chemical reactions that could cause burns to the occupants.
The National Police of the Region of Murcia has stated that it gives priority at all times to the humanitarian attention of immigrants, especially minors and vulnerable groups, coordinating highly effectively with the Government Delegation, the Ministry of Migration and different NGOs.
Apart from all of this, the National Police carries out the different administrative procedures to, where appropriate, execute the appropriate returns to countries of origin.
In this sense, the National Police was able to fully verify the involvement and responsibility of four Algerian citizens involved in the patronage and management of small boats between Algeria and Spain, one of them also being the organizer and supervisor of the transfers carried out.
All the detainees belong to criminal organizations based in Algeria and that capture their victims both inside and outside the country, with people of various nationalities among those trafficked, according to the same sources.
Group II of the Cartagena Immigration and Borders Brigade proceeded to arrest them and bring them to justice along with the proceedings instructed, and the judicial authority arranged for all of them to be imprisoned for trafficking in human beings.
