There is still bad news for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake. Of course, his development was very difficult right from the start. It wasn’t long ago that Ubisoft confirmed it was moving game development to a new studio, with Ubisoft Montreal who took control of the project.
However, a new problem seems to have emerged as the Prince of Persia remake was recently removed from retailer catalogs. Following this gesture, Ubisoft confirmed that Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time has now been postponed indefinitely.
IGN has indeed contacted Ubisoft and received an official statement on the matter. According to Ubisoft, the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remains in development at Ubisoft Montreal, as initially announced in early May. But instead of aiming for launch in fiscal 2023, Ubisoft has decided to completely remove the game. The company said those who pre-ordered the game can ask for a refund from their retailers or otherwise wait for an official update on the game’s development as it progresses.
Ubisoft never stated what problems the game had while under the wing of Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai. But the decision to move the development to a new studio was not taken lightly. As the new postponement shows, it’s effectively a project that has undergone a reboot and fans will likely not hear about it for some time.
