Prince Harry has reached an out-of-court settlement with Rupert Murdoch’s British tabloids, News Group Newspapers, the British subsidiary that owns The Sun, before they presented their legal arguments at the High Court in London.
The agreement comes a day after the lawyer for the youngest son of Charles of England, David Sherborne, asked the judge to delay the start of the trial.
Murdoch’s publishing group has agreed to pay “substantial damages” and has offered a “full and unequivocal” public apology to Prince Harry for the “serious intrusion of The Sun in his private life… including incidents of illegal activities” to gather information about him. Journalists from the United Kingdom claim that this compensation amounts to eight figures.
He has also apologized for the “Phone hacking, surveillance and misuseor private information by journalists and private investigators” and for the “impact that the extensive coverage and the serious intrusion into his private life had on him.
In the statement, the Murdoch group also points out the “serious intrusion” into the life of his mother, the late Princess Diana of Gales, “particularly during Harry’s younger years.”
“We acknowledge and apologize for the distress caused to the Dukeand the harm inflicted on your relationships, friendships and family, and we have agreed to pay you substantial damages. “It is also recognized that NGN’s response to the 2006 arrests and subsequent actions were regrettable.”

This agreement has prevented News Group Newspapers have to testify about wiretapping and other illegal methods which he used more than a decade ago to obtain information about Harry and other famous figures. It has also been a good solution for Harry since, under British law, he could have been forced to pay legal costs for both parties.
Harry sued these media outlets in 2019, accusing them of illegal practices to obtain exclusives about his private life. between the late 1990s and 2011.
Harry has another trial ahead against Associated Newspapers, the editor of Daily Mail, for wiretapping and other privacy violations. It is expected to take place next year.
