Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli congratulated his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi on Thursday on his 70th birthday and pledged to continue working closely towards strengthening bilateral relations. Prime Minister Modi turned 70 on Thursday. He was born on 17 September 1950.
Oli tweeted, ‘Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji congratulations to you on the auspicious occasion of your birthday. I wish you good health and happiness. We will continue to work closely together to further strengthen relations between the two countries. ‘ Oli had a phone conversation with Modi on August 15 to mark India’s 74th Independence Day.
It was the first high-level dialogue after the release of the new political map of Nepal in May, following tensions in the relations between the two countries. The relationship between the two countries soured when Defense Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated a strategically important 80-km road connecting Lipulekh Pass to Dharchula in Uttarakhand on May 8.
Nepal protested against the opening of the road, claiming that the road would pass through its territory. A few days later, Nepal released its new political map, stating Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura as its territory. However, India rejected Nepal’s claim.
