Back in the day, when detergent was still a detergent, you could visit any brand dealer and ask for a five-cylinder hatchback. They probably had one for you. Volvo had a C30, Fiat a Stilo and Ford had a fast Focus. Today, all fast hatchbacks are equipped with a four-cylinder or three-cylinder. Except for one, which is getting its price tag today. This is the price of the new Audi RS 3.
What is the price of the Audi RS 3?
Audi would like to see 92,607 euros appear in its bank account for the Audi RS 3 Sportback. Prefer the Limousine? Then you have to bring 93,255 euros. That is if you do not take options, because of course it is no problem at all to drive the price up to 100,000 euros and far beyond. Sure, that’s a lot of money for a hatchback or small sedan, but for the performance you get, it’s not all that bad. In Germany it costs only 60,000 euros.
What about the competition?
The main competitor is the Mercedes-AMG A 45 S. This executioner with 421 hp (which is slightly slower) costs 3,000 euros less. The price of the Audi RS 3 is therefore not that crazy. The BMW M135i does not really participate in terms of specifications, but immediately costs a lot less with a starting price of 60,913 euros. The next-generation BMW M2 could be an interesting comparison. What comes a bit in terms of specs is the Golf R (65,000 euros), but that is rather a counterpart to the Audi S3.
What do I actually get for that money?
Did you forget again? The 2.5-liter five-cylinder with a turbo again produces 400 hp. Torque increases from 480 to 500 Nm and is available over a wider rev range (from 2,250 to 5,600 rpm). The minor adjustments are enough to shrink the 0-100 time from 4.1 seconds to 3.8 seconds, with the help of launch control. The standard top speed is 250 km/h, but with the right options, it is a maximum of 290 km/h. The new RS 3 will appear in the Netherlands from autumn.
