The first edition of Press Start – Video Game Student Conference, the event organized by IIDEA – the association representing the video game industry in Italy, which was held on Friday 7 and Saturday 8 at the National Science Museum and Technology Leonardo da Vinci of Milan, Cultural Partner of the initiative. The appointment saw 45 professionals alternate on stage, who brought their experience as speakers and moderators in the ten panels divided into five thematic areas: design, art, technology, support and management. Over 400 people populated the Auditorium during the two days of the conference, to which are added those who followed the work in live streaming, an average of 1000 people connected, with peaks of 1200 spectators at the same time. There was no lack of moments dedicated to orientation and recruiting with over 350 1: 1 meetings between aspiring new professionals in the sector and the eight companies and five schools that participated in the meeting area.
The results for the first Video Game Student Awards were also revealed: the 15 professionals who gave their contribution to the three juries of the three competing prizes (Fresco Award, Luna Award and Strano Award) evaluated the over 30 nominations received and selected the projects more interesting. The Fresco Award was won by Void Pointer’s Dino Path Trail, roguelike survival that mixes western atmospheres and dinosaurs; the Luna Award went to Red32’s 11 Years Ago, a narrative puzzle game in which we are asked to solve the mystery surrounding the tragic death of the Blackwood family; the Strange Award saw Dirty Paws by SpaceDuck Studio excel, a competitive game of strategy and stealth, an original mix of board game, video game and AR. Each of them will receive a cash prize of 2,000 euros made available to the organizers.
