The television regulator in Nigeria has called on TV stations to pay less attention to insecurity in the country. Nigeria, with 211 million inhabitants the country with the largest population in Africa, has been struggling for years with large-scale violence and kidnappings by Islamic terrorist group Boko Haram and increasingly also by criminals. The regulator urges all TV stations to help the government by reporting less about the violence. Critics see this as a threat to press freedom.
