President Jair Bolsonaro inaugurated today (16) the Brazilian embassy in Bahrain in Manama. This is the first time that a Brazilian Head of State has visited the Middle East country.
The two nations have maintained diplomatic relations since 1971, but until today, Brazilian interests were represented by the embassy in Kuwait. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs believes that the creation of its own representation in the country will make it possible to intensify trade ties between the two nations.
Currently, among the nations of the Middle East, the country ranks fourth in commercial transactions with Brazil.
The creation of the embassy was defined in a decree signed by President Jair Bolsonaro. In a speech at the inauguration of the new Brazilian representation, the president said that there is great room for the expansion of business between Brazil and the Kingdom of Bahrain. He also stated that he was happy with the inauguration of the embassy, which is an important step in bringing the two countries closer together.
Bolsonaro also met the King of Bahrain Hamad Isa Bin Kalifa. He was welcomed with lunch at the Royal Palace and signed cooperation agreements in the areas of politics, culture and sports.
