Israeli President Yitzhak Herzog called the rhythmic gymnast Lina Ashram, who took gold in the individual all-around at the Tokyo Olympics, and congratulated her on her victory. This is reported on August 8 by the Israeli edition. Israel Hayom…
“We are proud of you! When we saw you cry, standing on the pedestal, how the Israeli flag was raised, saw your gold medal and heard the hymn of Israel, we were moved to tears, ”said the Duke.
The Israeli leader also advised the athlete not to pay attention to protests over the result of her performance.
On August 7, the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) formed and sent a request to the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) regarding judging in the individual all-around rhythmic gymnastics at the Games.
The complaint concerns the judging against the Russian women Dina and Arina Averin. Dina lost in the final of the individual all-around to the representative of Israel Lina Ashram, who won the medal of the highest standard. At the same time, the Israeli made gross mistakes and dropped the shell, while Averina performed cleanly.
The work of the judges during the final drew a wave of criticism. The head of the All-Russian Federation of Rhythmic Gymnastics Irina Viner-Usmanova said that the refereeing was unfair. According to her, Averina did not lose, but won. She also stressed that the Ashram made a gross mistake, for which all brigades usually take off points for both performance and technique and artistry.
In turn, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) declined to comment on the decision of the judges on the incident.
