The president of Argentina, Alberto Fernández, held a meeting this Saturday with the managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva. The meeting took place in Italy, where Fernández is for the G20 summit in Rome. On Twitter, the Argentine leader posted a photo of the meeting, accompanied by the following text: “Nice meeting with the managing director of the IMF, Kristalina Georgieva, to advance in negotiations that allow us to leave the socially and economically unsustainable place in which the government preceded left our beloved Argentina. To negotiate firmly is to regain sovereignty.”
The Argentine government is negotiating a new aid package with the IMF, with no deadlines for an eventual agreement so far, in a context of serious local economic and social crisis.
