President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will receive the 229 Brazilians residing in Lebanon who are being repatriated. The first flight of the so-called “Operation Raízes do Cedro” left Beirut this Saturday (5) at 7:18 pm local time (1:18 pm in Brasília).
According to the Brazilian Air Force (FAB), the KC-30 aircraft, used in the operation, is expected to make a refueling stop at Lisbon airport, Portugal, and land at the São Paulo Air Base, in Guarulhos ( SP), around 10 am this Sunday (6).
First scheduled to take off from the Lebanese capital on Friday (4), the flight had to be rescheduled for security reasons. The objective of Operation Raízes do Cedro is to bring up to 500 people to the country per week. The largest community of Brazilians in the Middle East is currently in Lebanon. In total, 21 thousand Brazilians live in the country
According to the FAB, the flight team will be made up of, in addition to the aircraft’s operational crew, military personnel from the health sector (doctor, nurse, psychologist), who will be ready to provide the necessary support during the mission.
The KC-30 aircraft is used in long-range missions, such as transporting troops, equipment, in-flight refueling and humanitarian missions. It is an adapted version of the Airbus 330, used on intercontinental flights.
