Syrian President Bashar al-Assad visited on Friday in the city of Aleppo the wounded of the devastating earthquake that struck Syria and its source was Turkey, according to the presidential accounts.
The accounts of the Presidency published pictures of al-Assad and his wife while they were inspecting the injured in Aleppo University Hospital, in their first visit to an affected area.
The earthquake that struck Syria and Turkey at dawn on Monday claimed the lives of more than 21,000 people in the two countries, including more than 3,000 in Syria.
The devastation caused by the earthquake affected five Syrian governorates, namely Idlib (northwest), Aleppo (north), Hama (center), Lattakia and Tartous (west).
Rescue teams are racing against time as the chances of finding survivors under the rubble diminish five days after the disaster.
From the first day, leaders and kings of several Arab countries rushed to communicate with Assad and express their solidarity with the plight of the Syrian people, who have been exhausted by the long years of war, before aid planes landed successively at the airports of Damascus, Aleppo and Latakia.
