People’s Party and Citizens press for the opinion with the recipes that the Regional Assembly will offer in fifteen days to the Community, for the social and economic reactivation, include as a priority “and as a whole” the new container terminal, the activity area logistics (ZAL) of Cartagena, the Mediterranean Corridor and the arrival of the AVE to the three main cities of the Region.
These essential infrastructures are for now the main obstacle to political unanimity in the regional Parliament. The two parties that support the Executive of Fernando López Miras have against the PSOE –Podemos has not attended the last two meetings of the presentation– not because of the objectives to be achieved, but because of the way to do it and the political intention in the writing of the motions for resolutions.
The liberal party has made a special effort on these issues. The presentation, which met yesterday to study the initiatives presented in the areas of economy, taxation and social policy, once again reviewed infrastructure issues. These are now the great impediment to political settlement. Liberal deputy Valle Miguélez insisted on the need to demand from the Government the declaration of the El Gorguel container terminal as a first-order project and expedite a statement from the European Union: “We have been dealing with this issue since 2006 and we are losing opportunities. We believe that it is time for the European authorities to speak out to continue with the project or to focus on something else. Here we are very polarized. But Europe is not vitiated by quarrels between PSOE and PP ». For her, this superport and its environmental compensation are essential for the economic future of the Region. It also considers that it does not conflict with the interests of the port of Valencia, politically shielded first by the PP and now by the PSOE against possible new competitors for container traffic between Europe and Asia. “There is a market for both,” he insisted.
Miguélez proposes to bring the port project to Brussels in search of a resolution that will clarify its future once and for all.The regional financing system, the way to defend the Transfer and the fiscal policy also separate the two blocks
Shape differences
Miguélez found support for his proposals in the PP. “The Gorguel is inalienable”, according to the popular deputy Miriam Guardiola. Both parties put the superport in a “whole” formed by the Mediterranean Corridor, the Cartagena ZAL and the arrival of the AVE to Murcia, Cartagena and Lorca.
The Socialist deputies pursue the same objectives as those of PP and Cs in these infrastructure issues. But they consider that there are already very advanced technical studies on El Gorguel, as well as others to assess the expansion of the Escombreras docks. Regarding railway development, they believe that the Government of Spain is already working adequately to bring high speed to the Region, as is the case with the Mediterranean Corridor project. In the case of the ZAL of Cartagena, socialist sources blamed the delays on the Autonomous Community for its changes of criteria when buying the necessary land from the public entity Sepes.
Maritime and railway infrastructures are not the only differences between PP and Cs with the PSOE. There are also notable ones in the way of claiming the defense of the Tajo-Segura Transfer, the reform of the regional financing system and fiscal policy. The center-right parties are in favor of lowering taxes even in the current context in which administrations will need large revenues for social reconstruction after the pandemic.
The report will meet at least twice next week to review the pending resolutions and try to reach agreements on the entrenched issues. The opinion will be voted in the first plenary session of the second ordinary period of sessions, which will begin in February.
The PSOE carries out a review of the residence model
The socialist deputy Toñi Abenza was especially satisfied yesterday by the widespread support for a proposal from her party to shape a new management model for residences for the elderly and disabled. “The debate to redefine the model must be centered on people and home care, which is where our elders really want to be,” he said. The Socialists also reproached PP, Cs and Vox for their opposition to a resolution to reduce tax aid for gambling. «The Government and the PP have carried the entire pandemic betting on keeping the gambling houses open instead of closing them. They are not considering putting restrictions even at a time like the present, “lamented Abenza. Despite this, the socialist deputy agreed with the popular Miriam Guardiola and Valle Miguélez, from Ciudadanos, in the “high degree of consensus” reached in the definition of measures to promote tourism and health reinforcement that the Assembly will raise to San Esteban .
