The German manufacturer entered Formula E in the 2019-2020 season and is still looking for his first win in the category having just touched it with Pascal Wehrlein in Puebla when the German was disqualified for a tire-related irregularity.
At the same time, Porsche’s direct rival, Mercedes, also decided to enter Formula E by winning the drivers ‘and constructors’ titles last season.
Porsche Motorsport’s new vice president, Thomas Laudenbach, during a meeting with selected media, including Motorsport.com, said: “We have not been able to achieve the success we expected or would have liked to achieve, and it is a given. in fact. Our goal is to win races and fight for the championship ”.
Since Porsche has decided to engage in Formula E, however, three German manufacturers have announced their farewell to the series: Audi, BMW and recently Mercedes.
The Stuttgart company will remain in Formula E until the end of season 10, in 2023-24, and will use the 470 HP Gen3 single-seaters for two consecutive years.

Laudenbach also spoke of Porsche’s commitment beyond this deadline: “Obviously it is clear that at some point we will have to decide what our future will be in Formula E. Over the next year we will decide whether to continue or not.”
In this decision, however, Porsche’s interest in a return to Formula 1 in 2026 thanks to the new rules relating to the power unit will have an influence. As already anticipated by Motorsport.com, the attractiveness of Laudenbach and the Stuttgart company towards the premier category is high.
“It is no secret that we are thinking of F1 and the elements for a return of Porsche to the series, such as the increase in the electrification of the power units, are becoming concrete.”
Could a possible engagement in Formula 1 affect the manufacturer’s plans relating to his presence in Formula E?
“When we decided to commit until season 10, Formula 1 was not in our thoughts. F1 and Formula E were two completely separate things from each other. If we were to make a decision today to return to Formula 1 it would have an influence on all other programs. This is clear”.
