Having arrived on the eve of the last round with the underdogs, Leonardo Caglioni (real driver) and Corrado Ciriello (sim racer) did not fail their goal: the “mixed” crew of Ombra Racing and the Bergamo team itself are therefore the winners of the Porsche Esports Carrera Cup Italia 2021.
The Monza final, played remotely on the respective simulators, was broadcast last night on Sky Sport Arena, a network that since the beginning of December every Monday has broadcast all six events of the virtual mono-brand promoted by Porsche Italia and Ak Esports, which has thus concluded a spectacular fourth edition of the series parallel to the one on the track, inaugurated in 2018 and the first in the world of this kind.
On the Autodromo Nazionale, faithfully reproduced in Assetto Corsa, things soon turned out well for the couple who commanded the white-red 911 GT3 Cup number 11 (the same livery used by Caglioni also on the track), with the 19-year-old talent from Bergamo who at the finish line in Brianza in race 1 he went to hit the fourth success out of six in the virtual series, the third in a row.
The ninth place obtained by Ciriello in race 2 then put the final seal on the title, with the sim driver class 1995 from Pompeii, who actually attended the Porsche Esports CCI from the very beginning, able to graduate champion for the first time (result that allowed him to win a Porsche Experience on ice) at the end of a concrete season and enhanced by the podium obtained in Vallelunga and the en plein of arrivals in the points area.
Returning to race 1 in Monza, behind Caglioni, the real ruler, Michele Malucelli and Giorgio Amati completed the podium, both great protagonists for the entire virtual season and both also able to overtake Simone Cunati (on the occasion disqualified for incorrect behavior ) in the individual classification reserved for real drivers, naturally always behind Caglioni.
In race 2, the one reserved for the sim racers of the various crews, to underline the victory of Michele Nerbi over Danilo Santoro and Luca Vernole. The player from Bergamo has thus redeemed the unfortunate round of Franciacorta and with the Ebimotors team in Monza he scored his first victory of the season.
The result also earned Nerbi the leap to third place in the individual sim racer ranking, eventually commanded by the 2019 champion Santoro in front of Stefano Battistella (out of the points in Monza due to the penalties remedied in the race), precisely Nerbi, Matteo Baio and the defending champion Gianfranco Giglioli.
As in the last edition, however, the individual rankings did not assign the title, which for 2021 was won by the aforementioned Ombra Racing and its crew Caglioni / Ciriello, who in the final ranking preceded Dinamic Motorsport (Baio / Amati) and Tsunami RT, third by a whisker with Battistella / Levorato on Team Glo (Giglioli / Cunati) and on Team Malucelli (Vernole / Michele Malucelli).
