Porsche’s interest in entering Formula 1 is nothing new. But the Stuttgart company had never expressed such a strong position: “We are talking to the FIA and seriously considering the possibility of entering Formula 1“. Word of Porsche Motorsport boss Thomas Laudenbach.
Porsche, whose brand – as well as Audi’s – is owned by the Volkswagen group, has participated in several meetings of motorists to ‘test the ground’ in view of 2026, the year of the new motoring revolution. The Federation is looking for a compromise between historic teams and new entries, including that of Porsche, a brand that – if the deal goes through – would make us forget the departure of Honda expected at the end of this season.
“If you look to the future and what automakers are announcing regarding the share of electric vehicles they want to sell in the future, I think it’s very important that Formula 1 makes one. shift towards electrification“, Laudenbach continued at the press conference. “It is clear that you cannot expect a format with a fully electric battery-powered vehicle, we all know that. But it is important that there is a much higher priority for the electrical part of the engine. As a manufacturer, you want to get noticed in motorsport, but this sport must also be important for road car technology. From what I know, the FIA has taken a huge step in this direction. This will help. And in fact it is no secret that we are talking to the FIA and it is no secret that we are seriously considering it. But there is still no decision made. One thing is clear if we make this decision we can’t wait too long“.
