To protect against infection with the corona virus, Pope Francis canceled his planned visit to the Christmas crib on St. Peter’s Square.
Rome – The event was canceled to avoid gatherings and thus the risk of contracting Covid-19, the Holy See announced on Thursday. The visit was planned for Friday following the traditional evening prayer on New Year’s Eve in St. Peter’s Basilica. Pope Francis had already celebrated Christmas with Corona restrictions. This year, however, there were significantly more people at the Christmas mass and the blessing “Urbi et Orbi” (The city and the world) in the Vatican than in 2020. As a rule, a large number of people come to the public appearances of the head of the Catholic Church. (dpa)
