Dmitry Polyansky, First Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN, on November 11, denied earlier reports in the media about Russia’s possible preparation for an invasion of Ukraine.
“No, we do not plan and never did,” Polyansky commented on a question from journalists.
At the same time, the diplomat noted that the peaceful position of the Russian Federation will remain until the country “is not subject to provocations from Ukraine or someone else”. In this case, entering the territory of a neighboring state will become “a matter of protecting sovereignty.”
In addition, the first deputy ambassador of the Russian Federation to the UN called the precautions against Ukraine, from which aggressive rhetoric sounds, logical.
“If you look at the threats that Ukraine has made against Russia, against Russia’s territorial integrity, then you will understand that certain precautions are a logical step in such a situation,” Polyansky told reporters.
Earlier Thursday, the agency Bloomberg citing sources, it was reported that representatives of the administration of the President of the United States, Joe Biden, voiced fears at a briefing about Russia’s possible preparation for an invasion of Ukraine. The United States discussed the possible plans of the Russian Federation after the emergence of “classified information”, which is owned only by the United States.
At the same time, as noted by the agency, Russia does not intend to start a war with Ukraine now, but supposedly must show its readiness to use force if necessary. At the same time, one of the agency’s sources also stressed that it is impossible to find out the true intentions of Moscow or predict its next step.
Earlier, on November 1, the head of Naftogaz Ukrainy, Yuriy Vitrenko, admitted the possibility of war between the Russian Federation and Ukraine after the launch of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. According to him, the launch of the SP-2 could make Ukraine more vulnerable to “Russian invasion”, since Moscow “will get rid of the deterrent factor.”
On October 24, the adviser to the head of the Ukrainian president’s office, Aleksey Arestovich, said that the actions of the Russian authorities lead to the fact that in the foreseeable future, Ukrainian missiles may be aimed at Moscow as a parity. He later explained that these words were not a threat to Russia, the emphasis was on the defensive nature of the country’s state policy.
As noted by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, the statements of Ukrainian politicians about the readiness to launch a missile strike on the Russian Federation and the start of the war cause concern. According to her, anti-Russian statements on a variety of topics have long been fashionable in Ukraine.
Prior to that, on October 21, the commander of the special operations forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (MTR of the Armed Forces of Ukraine) Grigory Galagan said that Ukraine does not exclude an invasion from Russia and considers it necessary to prepare all regions of the country for this.
Relations between Russia and Ukraine have deteriorated since a coup d’etat took place in Ukraine in 2014. The Crimean authorities decided to hold a referendum on reunification with Russia. As a result of the referendum, 96.77% of Crimean voters and 95.6% of Sevastopol residents voted for the entry of the peninsula into the Russian Federation.
