If popular speech is wealth -and it is- Tabasco It is one of the richest states in the country. There are used, as part of everyday expression, dazzling metaphors, wild hyperboles, bold tropes and splendid images that turn poetry into prose of Carlos Pellicer. In Tabasco, the small portion of food that is left on the plane out of courtesy, and in order not to make people think that they are hungry, is called “politics” In Tabasco the rude vulgarism -so misogynistic- of “cutting off” is not used. There it is said “flipping”. in Tabasco “be up to the bitumen” it is to be on the floor, since it refers to the fat that is used to polish shoes. In Tabasco it is called “play” to participate in an election. “So-and-so is playing for mayor”.
Time passes very quickly. (Passing time is the best thing that time knows how to do, in addition to healing sorrows of the soul and wounds of the heart). Don Francisco J. Santamaría, famous Tabasco, great lexicographer and eminent politician, he participated in the electoral fair to elect governor. He arrived in Villahermosa from Mexico City, and an old disciple of his, also a candidate, asked him: “Master: are you coming to play too?” “No, son,” Don Pancho answered him. “I’m not here to play; I’m serious.” He was serious, indeed, so serious that he ruled Tabasco from 1947 to 1952 if memory doesn’t deceive me, which maybe it is, because in recent years he has become a very liar to me.
The above comes to mind for a phrase that Don Francisco used to repeat: “In politics, friends are lies, and enemies are real.” His statement is similar to another phrase, this one by George Bernard Shaw. He used to say: “In politics, love is movable property, and hatred is immovable evil.” In Mexico, the applause that politicians receive can be liars – it is even possible to buy them – but the boos tend to be, most of the time, spontaneous. The booing that Alito received at the inauguration ceremony of the new governor of Aguascalientes had a trace of spontaneity. My antennae – the expression of an old columnist – tell me that the loudest boos against the PRI’s national leader came from the PRI members who were in the room.
This Alito, there is no doubt, it has gone wrong not only with him PRI and the PRI members, but also with Mexico. Deserved has those samples of repudiation, and those that will follow.
The lady told the wall painter: “And paint me some arrows that go from the bedroom to the window on the street and that say ‘Emergency exit’. You know, sometimes I’m with a friend, and suddenly my husband arrives”… The poor man begged the assailant: “Please! I have a family to support!”. The offender replied: “I have two”… Pirulina saw the job application form and exclaimed with disgust: “What an idea! So many things I have to say, and where it says: ‘Sex’ they just put a line!” “. After a long and expensive treatment, the psychiatrist informed his patient: “I have already taken away from you, Mr. Grogo, those dreams in which every night he saw himself fighting in a boxing ring, so that he always woke up tired and sore.
You are completely cured. Starting today, just take these pills to reinforce the treatment.” “I’ll take them starting tomorrow,” replied the individual. Tonight I fight for the title “… The wife entered the hospital room where her husband was and surprised him in a trance of eroticism with a pretty nurse. “What are you doing, Cachondio?” – she asked him in a paroxysm of anger. The guy handed him a piece of paper and said: “Check the list of things that the doctor forbade me, and you’ll see that the lady is not on it”… THE END.

Don Mamilo considers himself a very hardworking man. He spends eight hours a day underlining words in the daily newspaper. For that he has pencils of different colors. The verbs are marked with red, the adjectives with yellow, the pronouns with green, the few nouns with blue, etc.
That work is of no use, but Don Mamilo attaches great importance to it. No one but him does that work, he says, and that in itself gives him value. At the end of the day he proudly shows his wife the newspaper, all underlined. She just sighs, and she doesn’t say anything to him.
I feel great sympathy for this good gentleman. I also work with words, and I know that ultimately my task has the same importance as Don Mamilo’s. He and I are partners. We both work for oblivion.
See you tomorrow!…
