The new hydrological year starts this Friday with new challenges for the Levante agri-food sector, one of the main pillars of development in the Region of Murcia, Alicante and Almería; a macrosector that encompasses numerous economic, social and research activities. It generates tens of thousands of jobs and leads fruit and vegetable exports.
To obtain answers and keys on the future of water and Levantine agriculture, Scrats and LA VERDAD are organizing two conferences that will include the participation of national political leaders, sector managers and experts in hydrological planning, economics and water law. The first session will take place this Friday in Murcia, and the second on Saturday in Orihuela with two tables and presentations with a strong technical and business profile.
This meeting takes place in a context marked by the current crisis and food autonomy; as well as due to the drought and the forthcoming approval of the basin plans, where the focus is on the Tagus and the Segura and the future of the Transfer.
The LA TRUTH website will offer the development of the entire session minute by minute and through streaming

“Shedding light on the sector”
The president of the Water Transfer Irrigation Union, Lucas Jiménez, pointed out that this forum «aims to shed light on the future of our irrigation, the Water Transfer, our way of life in short. We hope that, freely and without controversy, the main political forces and the Ministry itself will give us their vision on something so important for our regions”.
He explained that the Forum will have “the contribution of scholars in the field of water from different disciplines, legal, hydrological and economic; as well as with the vision of consultants from international markets and technologies applied to water. “Without a doubt, these conferences will be interesting, at a crucial moment for the future of water administration and therefore of Levante’s agriculture.”
