Attempts by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg to explain the development of the alliance’s infrastructure in Eastern Europe by the situation around Ukraine are untenable. This opinion was expressed by a political scientist, head of the department of political science and sociology of the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics Andrey Koshkin on air Radio Sputnik.
He noted that the strengthening of the alliance’s contingent in the region has been going on for a long time. According to the expert, this is NATO’s strategic plan, the implementation of which is continuing now through the creation of tactical groups. In particular, such groups will be deployed as close as possible to the Black Sea, in the Black Sea members of the North Atlantic Alliance, Koshkin explained. He added that this is accompanied by the strengthening of NATO’s presence in the Baltic states.
The political scientist stressed that the duration of the stay of NATO units is not called, and admitted that they may remain in the region for an indefinite period. Koshkin noted that the buildup of the military potential of the alliance poses a potential threat to Russia.
Earlier, Stoltenberg said that the North Atlantic Alliance could deploy an additional contingent in the Black Sea countries. “Now we have battle groups [блока НАТО] in the Baltic States and Poland. We will consider the possibility of deploying similar groups in the Black Sea region in Romania, ”said the NATO Secretary General.
