Director of the Center for Political Analysis and Social Research Pavel Danilin believes that Kirill Fedorov, a blogger and author of one of the main Russian-language YouTube channels on military topics, History of Weapons, was arrested in Latvia for an objective assessment of what is happening in Ukraine and Donbass. On Monday, March 21, he said in an interview Ren TV.
“The situation is extremely bad. The fact is that Kirill Fedorov did not report any information that could be regarded as treason. He just reviewed the events taking place in Ukraine in the absence of the context of the propaganda frenzy,” said Danilin.
As the political scientist noted, Fedorov was engaged in refuting the fakes of the Ukrainian side, which were actively replicated in the West. This, in his opinion, was not to the liking of the Baltic intelligence services, who accused him of treason.
“Obviously, there is no freedom of speech in the Baltics. Any person who says something that is not mainstream can become the object of criminal prosecution, ”concluded Danilin.
Last week, on March 17, the blogger was detained without explanation in his parents’ apartment in Riga. According to European law, he was supposed to be released after 48 hours, but this did not happen. In addition, Fedorov’s relatives and lawyer were threatened with problems if they spoke to the Russian press.
In the near future, Fedorov is going to be charged with treason for the pro-Russian orientation of his videos. In particular, he is charged with cooperation with Russian intelligence.
Also on Monday, the administrator of the History of Weapons channel was detained in Riga. He is accused of espionage and work for Russian intelligence.
Blogger Kirill Fedorov is a citizen of Latvia. His YouTube channel has become one of the main patriotic amateur video hosting sites in recent weeks. The blogger published analyzes of hostilities in it, without hiding his pro-Russian positions. As a result, the videos went into trends and gained millions of views.
From the very beginning of the special operation of the Russian Federation to protect the Donbass, Fedorov began to receive regular threats. After another suggestion to change the direction of the commercials in order to avoid problems with the Latvian authorities, he decided to emigrate to Russia. The blogger was detained just before his departure.
In mid-February, due to the aggravation of the situation in the Donbass as a result of shelling by the Ukrainian military, the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics announced the evacuation of the civilian population to the Russian Federation and asked for help.
On February 24, Russia launched a special operation to protect the civilian population of Donbass.
