Limnekl is best known for his work as a working life professor of cybersecurity, but he also garnered a large number of votes last year in both municipal and regional elections.

Indeed, Limnagl began his speech on security policy and recalled that the new welfare area must be ready to take care of people who have to leave their homes because of the war in Ukraine.

From this, he went on to describe the beginning of the new council as historic and also said it required working together.

“We are not here to represent our own hometown or hometown. We represent the whole of Western Uusimaa, ”said the new chairman.

Regional Council met for its first meeting in Otaniemi, Espoo, on Monday evening.

An Espoo resident was elected vice-chairman Saara Hyrkkö (green) and Espoo Henrik Vuornos (kok). The seats of the third vice-chairman will be shared by the people of Espoo Maria Guzenina (sd) and Espoo Mervi Katainen (kok).

The MP from Espoo and a doctor will become the chairman of the regional government Mia Laiho (kok). The position of the first vice-chairman will be shared by Lohja residents Joona Räsänen (sd) and Guzenina (sd). Inkola will take the second vice-chair Henrik Wickström (r).

As expected, the distribution of seats was a celebration for both politicians familiar with Espoo’s municipal politics and the Coalition Party, but so were the elections.

Council the task that caused the most discussion on the agenda was to decide on the administrative regulations of western Uusimaa, ie how decision-making in the region works.

The law sets limits to this, but regional councils can, for example, outline what kind of decision-making bodies will be built under the council and the government. Western Uusimaa will have, for example, a service and resource committee, a future and development committee and a preparedness and security committee.

The decision-makers in Western Uusimaa will refine the administrative regulations several times this year, for example, a more precise division of power between the government and the boards.

The council also set up the post of head of the welfare area, for which the search for a suitable person is now beginning.

Responsibility for organizing social and health services and rescue operations will be transferred to new areas at the turn of the year.
