In all cases, bystanders or whistleblowers had gotten the swimmers ashore, but they were found dead on the spot.
Savon A total of three swimmers over the age of 70 died in the area on Friday night, says the Eastern Finland Police Department.
According to a police bulletin, in all cases those who reported to the emergency center or bystanders had been allowed to be ashore in the water. They had nevertheless been found dead.
A 78-year-old local man died in Rantasalmi, Southern Savonia. An 82-year-old woman also died in Sulkava in Southern Savonia. In Leppävira, in the southern part of the province of Pohjois-Savo, an 84-year-old woman from Keitel died.
The police, rescue services and first aid received the first report of a person who went swimming and died in the water before eight o’clock in Rantasalmi. A similar case was reported from Leppävirta before nine and from Sulkava before half past ten.
Police will continue to investigate each case as a cause of death investigation.
