The two suspects allegedly roamed the area at dawn with nets and hooded raincoats to cover their faces.
The Local Police of San Javier located two alleged poachers in La Manga del Mar Menor. The suspects were detected in the early hours of last Friday, according to police sources, aboard an auxiliary vessel circulating through the Veneziola Canals. They did it, apparently, without any lighting. Its two occupants also wore yellow hooded raincoats with the presumed intention of hiding their faces while they carried out the poaching activity with nets.
The agents, after detecting their activity, decided to follow them to intervene and put an end to the activity. The Local Police decided to act before the prohibition of the activity and the alleged violation of various infractions of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Law. Thus, the officials managed to intervene the boat after following it to a cove with limited access.
Once the individuals and the auxiliary vessel were intervened and identified, the sources explained, the agents verified that the folio number of the vessel was incomplete. The suspects also did not provide any documentation on the legitimacy of the activity or on the boat used for it.
The Local Police of San Javier, before these facts, made a report with an exposition of facts to put them in knowledge of the competent organisms, that is, the Autonomous Community and Maritime Captaincy, so that the appropriate measures are taken.
Last January, several residents of La Manga surprised two furtive fishermen aboard a boat at night, throwing the fishing gear in the middle of the Estacio canal, an activity that is totally prohibited. According to witnesses, the two men were barely there for five minutes, but during that time they launched the nets making a fence to capture sea bass. They fled without being caught.
