The Federal Highway Police closed the month of August with two seizures of cash, totaling almost R$ 1.5 million, in cars that used to travel on highways that cross the State of São Paulo.
The first step took place around 3:45 pm on Monday, 30, when the PRF found a suitcase with R$ 1 million in the trunk of a Mercedes Benz boarded on the Presidente Dutra highway, in Lavrinhas, 222 km from the capital of São Paulo. The following day, agents seized R$ 499,950.00 inside a Honda Accord that traveled without identification plates on Fernão Dias, in Mairiporã.
The first occurrence took place within the scope of an inspection aimed at fighting crime. According to PRF, the Mercedes Benz driver “showed nervousness” during the approach, which motivated the search of the vehicle.
When asked about the suitcase with R$ 1 million found in the trunk of the car, the man said, at first, that he did not know the contents. However, he ended up admitting that he knew the value, having the passenger confirmed that there was R$ 1 million in the suitcase.
According to the PRF, the occupants of the luxury vehicle presented conflicting justifications about the transportation of the money and, therefore, they were taken to the Federal Police station in Cruzeiro (SP). The car and cell phones were also seized. They were heard and liberated.
Almost half a million were already apprehended this Tuesday, 31, with a 31-year-old man. He told the police that he was taking the money to Mairiporã, where the employer’s son’s house is located, at the employer’s own request.
According to the PRF, as in the case of the seizure carried out the day before, an incident was registered to investigate the crime of money laundering.
