On the set of the western “Rust” a bullet went off in the gun of US actor Alec Baldwin – he fatally hit camerawoman Halyna Hutchins. Now there are new pictures of the unlucky day.
SANTA FE – For months, the police have been investigating the dramatic incident on the set of the low-budget western “Rust.” During the shoot with Hollywood star Alec Baldwin, a sharp shot erupted from a prop gun – fatally injuring chief camerawoman Halyna Hutchins and injuring director Joel Souza in the shoulder. Unimaginable scenes must have happened on the set in those minutes – the Santa Fe police are now releasing image and text material from the crime scene for the first time.
Deadly Baldwin shot: This is what the film revolvers looked like
Police investigations revealed that the Colt had a real bullet in it. Just a few days ago, a US agency for occupational safety and health fined the producers of “Rust” by almost $137,000 (about 126,000 euros) for safety deficiencies on the set. Photos of the weapons on the set can also be seen for the first time. Leading actor Alec Baldwin protested in December that he had not pulled the trigger.
Among other things, bodycam footage, photos and videos from the crime scene, and text messages between film crew members in the days before and after the incident were released, including the New York Times with reference to the police in the US state of New Mexico.
Fatal shot at Baldwin shooting: pictures show the scene of the crime
The photos include Alec Baldwin in his role, disguised and gun in hand. The scene of the crime can also be seen in the pictures. On the one hand, from the outside, a small wooden church in the middle of the desert of Santa Fe in the US state of New Mexico, surrounded by all sorts of film and director’s paraphernalia. The photos also provide a glimpse into the church. Small yellow license plates mark the individual traces of evidence, such as bloody film clothes, scraps of paper and cartridge cases.
After a fatal shot on the set: paramedics try to save Hutchins
Photos from a body cam of a police officer on site are particularly impressive. They show how several paramedics bend over the fatally injured camerawoman Halyna Hutchins and try to save her. At the time it was apparently not clear how badly the 42-year-old was really injured. In the video you can hear according to information from picture ask someone how stable Hutchin’s condition is. The answer seems to have been, “Enough to be flown out of the air.” This was referring to the helicopter circling the set at the time.
In addition to the image and text material, the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office announced that the investigation is ongoing and important findings are still missing.
