Tijuana. -According to data from the National Survey of Urban Public Safety (ENSU) carried out by the INEGI, the Tijuana citizenry locates the municipal police as the second worst evaluated in confidence levels.
The survey reveals that the negative perception of the municipal police force extends to the state corporation in charge of preventing and maintaining order and security, placing the State Police in the same position as the municipal police. They are also, according to those surveyed, the second worst police force at the national level in terms of the perception of citizen trust, only behind the police of Cuautitlán Izcalli, a municipality in the State of Mexico.
This assessment changes drastically when the Tijuana native is asked about the Federation’s security forces. Compared to 26.8% of citizens who claim to trust the Municipal Police, another 75.9% of these same respondents affirm trust in the National Guard, same case with the Army and the Navy where a total of 86.9% and 88.8% of citizens, respectively, affirm that these institutions generate trust in them.
