The future of electricity Polestar 5 will be faster, lighter and more dynamic thanks to a brand new platform in bonded aluminum, developed in the UK. The move by the Swedish manufacturer is very interesting, because it will allow greater independence from Volvo and Geely, the group that controls the brand. The deck was developed thanks to the work of over 280 engineers from Polestar’s British R&D team based in Coventry.
The bespoke aluminum platform will open up new possibilities for the automaker and provide the soon to come Polestar 5 with dynamics, rigidity and safety features that should bring it and attend the top of the range segment with dignity. The platform will be accompanied by a new production process, which should also reduce assembly times: in fact, for the Polestar 5, the bodywork and the platform will be built at the same time. Furthermore, the UK R&D team, in full expansion phase, will reach 500 employees in the coming months. This detail will also contribute to a better overall performance.
The Polestar 5 will be a high-performance electric 4-door GT. With glued aluminum you can aspire to good results, in particular from the point of view of the general set-up. It is in fact a light and rigid material, capable of offering exceptional advantages from an environmental and performance point of view. This technology has proven in the past to be very labor intensive and difficult to use in mass-produced vehicles without compromising on quality. With current production technologies, however, the problem would have been reduced. The so-called “body-in-white” (platform and bodywork completed) will weigh less than that on cars in the smaller segments.
