When The Pokémon Company, during a Pokémon Presents, announced the new one Pokémon Legends: Arceus, we were all amazed by Game Freak’s decision to create a new product, which had the same basic structure as the titles of the main series but at the same time capable of revolutionizing the brand in some way. Hoping for that news, we made it to the present day where, with a new presentation, they were revealed many new details on the Pokémon game, and in this preview we will discover together what has convinced us for now and what, instead, has left us a bit of a bitter taste.
Sinnoh? No, Hisui!
The first big reveal concerns the game map which, as we all imagined, it is about Sinnoh… more or less. In fact, although the region is that, and we can confirm it above all thanks to the presence of the imposing Monte Corona, it it is not called as in the fourth generation games, but Hisui. Pokémon Legends: Arceus is set in the past, in a sort of feudal Japan, when there was not even the classic pokémon-human bond we are used to, so it is more than normal to think that the inhabitants of the region had another name to identify their own Earth.
Another great revelation is instead that concerning the system of interaction with wild pokémon. Indeed this title it would seem to be finally a real open-world, a feature that the community has been requesting for a long time and with insistence, especially after the release of the eighth generation games. In Pokémon Legends: Arceus instead it seems that finally the freedom of movement and room will be total, with lots of wild pokémon that they can chase you or attack you directly to bring your “hp bar” to 0. We used quotation marks because actually not one appears on the screen, but your avatar, after taking a sufficient amount of damage, will pass out and awaken in a Pokémon camp.
These camps are safe areas to take refuge, scattered across the map, where it will be possible rest, to buy or create objects useful to carry around. That’s right, you read that right, in this game you can create your own objects by collecting the materials found around during your adventures. The example shown during the presentation was that of the pokéball, which can be created using a particular stone and a apricot, an appreciable return after the titles set in Johto. These fields also conceal another surprise, given that the flag of the Team Galaxy, which also in the past already circulated for this region.
A good Galaxy Team in Pokémon Legends: Arceus?
Although not much is known about the actual plot of this new one Pokémon Legends: Arceus, some new details have been added to the puzzle, such as the presence of the “evil team” of the fourth generation games. These settled in Giubilo village, welcoming members from all regions, and they formed 3 teams: that medical, the one suitable for safety and that of exploration. It will be Team Galassia to introduce you to the adventure through the Professor Laventon, a pokémon researcher who will entrust you with one of the three starters in the game: Cyndaquil, Oshawott or Rowlet.
After passing a few small initial missions that will show your talent to the leaders of Team Galactic, you will be officially included in the exploration team, whose mission is to discover, capture and analyze the habits, behaviors and characteristics of all the pokémon present in the region, a nice way to ask you to complete the archaic pokédex. The captain of the exploration team will be Cyllene, one authoritarian woman, but what will have you and your mission at heart, and will always try to give you a hand in time of need. Also aesthetically its resemblance to the good Cyrus it is obvious; that it is a distant descendant of him?
Regional forms or past forms?
We haven’t talked about it yet in this preview but, of course, like any good new self-respecting Pokémon game, too Pokémon Legends: Arceus will implement new pocket monsters, only unlike other regions, here we should ask ourselves if we can really talk about regional forms. In the trailer they are shown 4 new creatures: Wyrdeer, Basculegion, And Braviary And Growlithe by Hisui. Wyrdeer it is a large reindeer with a white coat and particularly pronounced in some areas, it evolves from one Stantler which has adapted to the harsh climates of Hisui and has a great connection with the humans who inhabit the region.
Basculegion instead it is a huge fish that lives in streams, it evolves from Basculin and it seems to be very strong why it contains within itself the spirits of many Basculin all together. Hisui’s Braviary instead it changes with respect to its basic form mainly only in the coloring, which in this case has become white as regards the wings, tail and feathers on the head, while gray-black for the rest of the body, with the exception of one purple flame, with a conformation similar to a pair of eyes, which appears on the head; since it unleashes psychic powers in battle it makes sense that its types will be steering wheel and psycho.
Also Hisui’s Growlithe it does not differ too much from the original, the only tangible difference, besides perhaps a slightly darker color, concerns the hair on the neck and above the head. If in the version of Kanto the pokémon had a bristly and yellowish hair, here it has become a lot rounder and softer, and above all more cumbersome, even covering the eyes of the creature. A horn has also developed on its head that appears to be made of rock, a detail that suggests that the types of the pokémon will be fire and rock; which would make it look even more like, if the new design weren’t enough, ai Komainu, the stone dog-lions guarding Japanese Shinto temples.
Combat and conclusions in the preview of Pokémon Legends: Arceus
In this final part of our preview we want to talk about the pokémon battles present within the game which, as per tradition, play a fundamental role within the game economy. Despite the open-world nature it will allow to avoid them – not to mention that to capture a pokémon it will be enough to throw the pokéball directly against it (although this will obviously be more difficult since the pokémon will not be weakened) -, Game Freak did not miss out on take care of the battle system and indeed, it seems to have revolutionized it. In this new title the shift system is decided by speed of the two pokémon to the point where, if one of them is much faster than the other, then he can perform even more consecutive attacks before the opponent’s move.
They have also been added the quick moves and the powerful ones, two styles with which it will be possible to attack and through which the course of the game will also change. With the first your moves they will do less damage than normal, but your speed will increase, while with the powerful style your moves will do much more damage, but there it is will slow down. All this could lead to a new combat system in which matches are not heavily scored by a single very powerful move or transformation, but would be decided by the long-term strategy that the various players decide to implement.
Unfortunately, even from this new trailer, although the framerate appears to be more stable, we have the confirmation that the environments will be quite bare compared to the standards we are used to in Nintendo Switch games, and some textures do not seem cured particularly, such as that of a stream seen from above, or that of some trees. In general, however, we can be quite satisfied with this new video, which revealed how Game Freak has decided to get involved and try to give a real breath of fresh air to the brand. If you were also interested in Pokémon Unite, the new moba of The Pokémon Company, know that during the same presentation many news about it were announced.
