The Flemish Yves Bruynen runs the Pokémon shop Flash-cards in Hoogstraten in Belgium and has a collection of ten thousand cards. He also owns one of the rarest Pokémon cards in the world: a ‘shadowless’ Charizard from the first edition from 1999, worth half a million euros. “Getting used to it doesn’t do it. But I am very sober. If the card is worth nothing next year, then so be it. For me it’s a hobby. Even if the cards have no value anymore, I continue with them.”
