Abu Dhabi (Al Ittihad)
Slovenian cyclist Tadej Pogacar, the leader of the UAE Cycling Team and the winner of the 111th edition of the Tour de France, seemed determined to continue chasing records, following his celebration of his third title in his history after the 2020 and 2021 editions, becoming the first cyclist since the late Italian Marco Pantani in 1998 to achieve a “historic double”, by winning the Giro d’Italia in the same year.
Pogacar expressed his happiness at winning the title of the “Tour de France 2024”, saying: “I am very happy, I cannot describe how happy I am after two difficult years in the Tour de France, there were always some mistakes, and this year, everything went well.” The Slovenian added: “Mark Cavendish, here I come,” referring to the latter’s record of 35 victories, noting that the Slovenian has achieved 17 victories.
The UAE team leader kept the yellow jersey for the leader of the standings since winning the fourth stage, then the 14th and 15th, before achieving victory in the last three stages, raising his tally to 17 victories in his fifth participation in the tour (3 stages in 2020, and the same in 2022.. and two stages in 2021, and the same in 2023).
With this victory, achieved after being satisfied with the “runner-up” in the last two editions behind Vingard, Pogacar is preparing in the best way to participate in the Olympic Games, which are also held in France, specifically the capital Paris, between July 26 and August 11, hoping to achieve a better result than Tokyo 2020, when he won the bronze in the road race.
