María Marín participated in the citizen protest in defense of the lagoon at the gates of the Assembly and demanded the presence of López Miras in the Plenary
This Wednesday, September 1, the political course begins in the Regional Assembly, after a late summer marked by the poor state of the Mar Menor, which in recent weeks saw thousands of dead fish and crustaceans appear on the shores of its beaches. Therefore, prior to the beginning of the plenary session, numerous citizens participated in the citizen protest called to demand responsibilities and solutions. Along with them was the regional spokesperson for Podemos, María Marín, who thanked citizens for mobilizing to show their «
most absolute rejection of the policies that have led the Mar Menor to become an environmental disaster of international level ». The deputy considers that “only with citizen mobilization can a change of course be achieved for the lagoon.”
Marín stressed that this Wednesday “is not a normal plenary session” because it is the first to occur after this latest death episode “with
all the citizens of the Region of Murcia very aware of what their representatives decide». However, the spokesperson for Podemos regretted that López Miras has chosen not to appear and hide behind his advisers. The deputy rejected the presence of counselor Antonio Luengo, who “should have resigned weeks ago” for going down in history as “the counselor who allowed the agribusiness lobby to push the Mar Menor to the limit of catastrophe, refusing to pursue and dismantle crops and illegal desalobradoras, also hindering the processing of the sanctions provided for in the law “. For Marín, the absence of López Miras from the rostrum is a “lack of respect for all citizens” to which public positions are due, and to the democratic and representative essence, since “the rulers must respond to the opposition, not hide behind a Twitter account ».
Regarding the solutions that Podemos proposes to the situation in the Mar Menor, Marín announces that he will once again put on the table during his speech in plenary session “the need to protect the Mar Menor as much as possible, creating that
Regional Park demanded by associations, scientists, and even some official schools of professionals such as geologists ”. The deputy pointed out that “the Mar Menor catastrophe has those responsible, whom Podemos will point out from the Assembly, but it also has solutions for which, clearly, we are arriving late.” For this reason, it demands that the rest of the groups “join the Regional Park proposal as soon as possible and we begin to remedy this disaster.”
