PODCAST | Your title, thank you: Spain is filled with private universities

In Spain there are 50 public universities, although the last one opened 26 years ago. During that time, the discourse has been established that there are too many public universities, that young people are overqualified and that there is no job market for so many university graduates. Since then, however, 27 private universities have opened. A lucrative business in which the Church has always been present and where investment funds have recently fully entered.

If the pending licenses are approved, Spain will soon have the same number of public and private universities. What does all this imply? What does the entry of private companies into higher education mean for a country? What impact does this have on seemingly unrelated issues, like housing or voting? We answer all these questions with Daniel Sánchez Caballero, elDiario.es journalist specialized in Education.
