PODCAST | What happened to Syriza

Almost a decade after its incontestable electoral victory, Syriza, the left-wing party that symbolized the resistance of Greek citizens to the neoliberal recipes of the ‘troika’, is experiencing its last opportunity not to disappear. The formation that was once the mirror in which to look at other emerging European alternative lefts in the second decade of the century, Podemos among them, ended up giving itself to a young millionaire heir to revive the party. The experiment was a disaster and this weekend this episode closed with the election of a new leader, this one, the black leg of the formation, with the challenge of stopping its decomposition.

With the collaborator of elDiario.es in Greece, Queralt Castillo, we explain how Syriza ended up electing a former banker as president of the party, and with Andrés Gil, deputy director of elDiario.es and head of International, we remember what Syriza meant in that context of global financial crisis and cuts across Europe.
