Of the 13 accused of a minor prostitution ring in Murcia, only three will go to prison, and they will do so with minimum sentences because it has taken justice ten years to bring them to justice. A total of 11 underage adolescents were prostituted, captured by a plot that, through deception, offered them to clients who demanded adolescents for sexual relations. Among the clients there are well-known businessmen in Murcia, lawyers from a prestigious law firm and even a civil guard. But none of them will go to prison because the agreement signed between their defense and the Prosecutor’s Office leaves the sentences below two years in prison.
We spoke with Elisa M. Almagro, a journalist from elDiario.es in the Region of Murcia, to find out the details of this plot and the judicial journey that has ended in practical impunity for the clients of this minor prostitution plot. With Judge María del Prado Escoda, member of Gender Violence of Judges for Democracy, we tried to understand how these types of agreements work and how it is possible that justice has failed such vulnerable victims and benefited the powerful part of this case.
