Argentine Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea coach, praised the performance of his players during a victory over his guest and arch-neighbor Tottenham with two goals, in a postponed match from the 26th round of the English Premier League football championship.
Treford Chalobah opened the scoring for Chelsea in the 24th minute of the match held at Stamford Bridge, while his Senegalese teammate Nicholas Jackson added the second goal in the 72nd minute, so the blue team settled the London confrontation in their favor, and Chelsea raised its score to 51 points in eighth place with possession of Postponed match.
Pochettino said after the match, in statements reported by the club’s official website: “I don’t know if this was the best match of the season, but it was the match I felt happiest after. The way we played, and the way we competed, this is what we wanted since the beginning of the season.”
He added, “This is what we want to apply in all matches. We were very competitive, and in this way we can develop and achieve better performance in other matches.”
Pochettino praised Noni Madueke’s performance in particular, during the match, which witnessed the absence of 14 players from the team due to injury, as he spoke about him, saying: “He played a wonderful match, and if you analyze his level at the beginning of the current season, before all the talks, meetings, and video clips, “And things like that. He’s always been able to do a great job with the ball, like now.”
The Chelsea coach said: “Of course he is an offensive player, but without the ball he does a great job helping Alfie Gilchrist in defence. This is what we need for the future, in order to build this competitive spirit.”
