The competent authorities are now investigating the matter to clarify the causes of the mishap on the Ferris wheel
It certainly enters the “Top 5” of nightmare moments for each of us. Getting on a carousel, a place dedicated to recreation, fun in company, to get stuck. Worse if it is a structure that grows in height and keeps us hanging for a long time. Well, this last case is exactly what happened yesterday. There were moments of panic yesterday afternoon on one ferris wheel for a family made up of father, mother and two children aged 7 and 11.
The family was stuck for about half an hour inside the highest cabin of the Bolsena Ferris wheel, about 20 meters high, due to a sudden electrical failure. It must not have been as relaxing an experience as was advertised.
The frightening mishap occurred around 4pm on Sunday 14 April. The four tourists, unaware of what was about to happen, had enjoyed the breathtaking view of the Bolsena lake from the highest cabin of the ride, when suddenly the wheel got stuck.
The alarm was immediately raised and the Gradoli firefighters intervened on site, with a rescue operation daringly they rescued the unfortunate people from the Ferris wheel. The firefighters, using a ladder truck, reached the cabin and one by one brought the family members to the ground.
Fortunately no one was injured, no movements caused damage or abrasions to the family members. There fear it was a lot, especially for the two children. The parents, however, thanked the firefighters for their timely intervention.
The matter is now underway investigations by the competent authorities to clarify the causes of the fault that blocked the Ferris wheel. The carousel, inaugurated just over a year ago on the lakeside of Bolsena, is now closed for safety reasons. The enthusiasm at the moment of the opening was great, here is a video in which the Ferris wheel in operation was filmed just a week before the accident.
Yesterday's episode put the spotlight on the ride safety, especially new generation ones such as the Ferris wheel in Bolsena. We always rely on those responsible for these structures to ensure regular checks and maintenance are carried out. Every misadventure like yesterday's is a serious inconvenience, even if it does not involve fatal accidents.
