A future of big investments for PS5 and beyond? Talk to an investor.
Through the blog Marsipian Games a Sony investor, Adam Berggren, argues that the company would have a very specific strategy in mind of investments to be made in the long term in the gaming sector, therefore relating to Sony Interactive Entertainment and new acquisitions of development and exclusive studios.
It is clear that in recent years the digital entertainment sector, therefore video games, has been the fastest growing sector for Sony as well, so it would not be surprising a strategy for distributing the resources to invest that would favor this sector more.
I see such a big amount of misinformation and speculation floating around about Sony and its overall acquisition strategy.
Here’s a post from me, a stockholder, and a close follower of the company and their strategy going forward regarding M&A.# PS5https://t.co/0q1Q5imZjB– Adam (@DoodMarvelous) October 15, 2021
In this sense, the statements of Tony Vinciquerra, president of Sony Pictures:
“I think the traditional sector of television and film medium has reached and passed its peak, now the new growing area is that of the game business, and who is better positioned than Sony in this area? I think you will see several consolidations from that. side. (…) The next area of investment and consolidation will be video games. “
According to Berggren then Sony would have between 13 and 18 billion dollars to invest in the video game sector to allow him to grow, and this will certainly concern investments in important productions but also acquisitions of talented studios that can give prestige to this and the next generations.
The success of the PlayStation is clear, also thanks to the important sales before the PS4 and now the PS5, despite the shortage of units: the next step will be to upgrade their studies (for example Insomniac is working on several titles at the same time) and continue to expand the PlayStation Studios family.
