The video shows the PlayStation executive meeting a 15-year-old boy.
Yesterday, a video appeared online: the video talks about an executive Sony accused of trying to meet a 15-year-old boy. George Cacioppo, Senior Vice President Engineering of PlayStation Network, has worked at Sony Interactive Entertainment since September 2013, and now the company has taken immediate action by firing him.
The YouTube People channel v. Preds released the video, with screenshots, messages and images that would be shared between Cacioppo and who he believed was a 15-year-old boy. People v. Preds essentially used a decoy in this encounter, pretending to be the guy Cacioppo would be trying to meet. Sony reacted quickly to this video, firing Cacioppo shortly after it appeared online. In an e-mailed statement, Sony said it was aware of the situation and “the employee in question has been fired”.
The video depicts a cameraman approaching Cacioppo, who was using the name “Jeff” for this scheduled meeting. In the video, Cacioppo returns to the house, closes the door and refuses to answer any questions from the cameraman, who starts yelling that he would call the police. Allegedly, Cacioppo was communicating with the bait by pretending to be a kid on the Grindr website. The two exchanged photos and planned to meet: the bait said he would use an Uber to meet him and that Cacioppo was waiting for him.
Before joining Sony, Cacioppo had a long history in and out of the gaming and tech industry. According to his Linkedin profile, Cacioppo has worked in the engineering industry since 1978, including Hazeltine Industrial Products Division, Digital Equipment Corporation, Adobe, PalmSource Holding Co, Intuit and since 2013, Sony.
Currently Sony hasn’t released any press releases about it other than that brief statement – stay tuned with us for more information.
