In recent days the issue of including premiere games in PSPlus is still more than latent, and PlayStation He continues to answer that they do not see a future in carrying out this type of decision, because they want some time to pass to do so. And now, the head of the indies division, Shuhei Yoshida He talks about how publishers should use the service to manage the lifecycle of games.
In an interview with GI Live: London, Yoshida spoke about the approach Sony for a subscription service, reiterating that the company still believes in launching a premium title on its way out. But with a different approach.
This is what he mentioned:
The new PS Plus has tiers and essentially it’s like the old PS Plus, we still release two or three new games every month and a new tier, Extra, has a catalog of hundreds of games for people to play.
For Extra, our approach is that we like to help publishers with lifecycle management. I was running first-party on PlayStation, so I know it’s like in the movies: a movie comes out first in theaters, then it goes to pay-per-view, or a subscription service, or free TV, every time it generates new revenue and reaches a wider audience.
In the same way, we believe in launching a premium title at launch and after maybe six months, three months or three years, when game sales drop, inclusion in this service, PS Plus Extra, can help. introduce these games to new and broader audiences. Some people may have missed these games when they came out and it’s a great opportunity to play and generate word of mouth or if there is DLC or a sequel in the works we can help increase interest to a wider audience about the franchise.
So we encourage publishers to make use of these services to manage the life cycle of each title.
Even with all this, the decision not to include big titles as premieres is not going to change.
